Malaysia needs to identify energy sources that are less expensive and time in order to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. Senior Fellow of Malaysia, Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI) Dr Mohamad Yusof Sulaiman said among the potential alternative sources of energy is solar energy.
"We are conducting research to reduce the price of PV with Cadmium Telluride (a chemical that acts as a semiconductor) to replace silicon," said Mohamad Yusof.
A solar panel produces 100 watts of electricity costs RM5, 000 but the cost can be reduced to approximately Rm1, 500 if bought in bulk. Starting next month, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) will raise its electricity tariff after the government decided to withdraw the subsidy on fuel economy and high fuel prices on June 5
A source told Bernama the industry in May that the Government is considering the possibility of using the tariff (FIT) which is implemented by Germany in order to encourage the use of solar energy in particular in urban areas.
A local inventor, Zulkifli Haroon supported the use of solar energy as it is safe, environmentally friendly and had no security problems. "This is a good time to switch to solar energy," he said, adding that other than solar energy, other alternatives were wind power, hydro-turbines and EMF (Electro Magnetic Force).
Zulkifli Haron show his Melayu Boleh Challnge ability by building a "solar house intelligent", which can produce up to 10,000 watts of electricity at Bukit IBAM, Kuantan, since June 10. The solar house that invited, kitchen, two bedrooms and two bathrooms will be ready in two months. The house has a battery backup system, if there is no sunlight.
"I want to challenge my ability & prove that, with a RM100, 000 investment, people can build a solar house, which is entirely dependent on sunlight," he says. He said that the solar house for most of 500 solar panels on the roof. "The reality is that we do not have to depend on oil. We need to change to solar energy as an alternative," said Zulkifli. Haron This Melayu Boleh Macgyver said that the main challenge was to change the mentality of people to accept change.
This Melayu Boleh show his low profile personality. Although he has claimed thousands of creative products and his team, he never be proud of its achievement. He always shared his knowledge & challenge with others. This Melayu Boleh men still support this great discomfort. His project also helps many people especially those that involve IKS or that Sederhana Industri Kecil. Much of its design to facilitate their work, thereby reducing their cost.
