What are Royal Professor Ungku Abdul Aziz's secrets to success? One of them is to read nine books.

This includes Harvey Diamond's Fit for Life, not fat for life, Edward de Bono's Thinking Course, Tony Buzan's Mind Map, head first, and the 36 strategies for China: an adaptation of the ancient Chinese wisdom to the world of undertaking by Wee Chow Hou and Lan LUH LUH.

Others are Jim Collins Level 5 Leadership, Sun Tzu's Art of War, Nicollo Machiavelli's The Prince on the art of power and head of the window by JDW Beck and Yeager NM.

Ungku Abdul Aziz bin Ungku Abdul Hamid (born January 28, 1922, London, United Kingdom) was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Malaya from 1968 to 1988. He was awarded the title of Professor Diraja in 1978. He graduated with a PhD from Waseda University in Tokyo.

The 87-year-old said the avid reader of books provide insight on how a good challenger and successful Melayu Boleh leaders.

Citing an example, he said Edward de Bono's Thinking Course promotes lateral thinking."This book teaches you to think differently," he said in his "Quest for Success" as part of the Merdeka Award Lecture Series. He was winner of last year in education and the community category.

Ungku Aziz said a successful malay leader @ Melayu Boleh challenger would be a good intelligence, credibility, humility, courage and discipline.

He also said that a good malay leader @ Melayu Boleh Challenger can identify the opportunities during a crisis.

"Every crisis offers opportunities," he said.

Later, when taking questions from the floor, Ungku Aziz said successful Melayu Boleh people are those who have to resolve because their minds were strong and resolute in achieving their goals.

"At the same time, humility is important.

"I am happy when I go to a kampung and I said, 'you Universiti Macam itu punya" (as you look at the person of the university), he said to laughter from the audience.
